BALLISTICS IQ

Within minutes of a shooting incident, an agency can scan and upload cartridge case images, determine the unique number of firearms involved in the incident, and identify the best cartridge case for entry into the NIBIN program. These cases are then forwarded to our team of Senior Firearm Examiners at our Virtual Correlation Center (VCC), who will analyze all images, possibly determine the manufacturers of firearms, and search for potential links in real-time.

Ballistics IQ is the FIRST and ONLY automated and patented firearms triage solution.

When fired, each firearm leaves individual markings that are unique to the firearm. Evidence IQ utilizes a combination of proprietary software, image analysis, and the VCC to carefully compare and associate cartridge cases to other cartridge cases or firearms. These connections help develop new investigative leads and identify potential links between shooting incidents in no time, even while still at the crime scene.

  • Scans recovered cartridge cases in approximately 30 seconds
  • Compare scene and known firearm (test-fires) cartridge cases
  • Real-time Crime Scene Analysis Triage reports
(identify the number of firearms, best candidates for entry into NIBIN, likely firearms make/model)
  • Connect separate shooting incidents
  • Document all phases of exhibit examination/analysis

The use of Ballistics IQ will let examiners work on other assignments/duties while allowing the system to do the initial sorting and triage. This will ultimately result in saved time based on the numerous factors that go into examining the work. The number of fired cartridge cases submitted, the workload, and the overall experience level of the technician are all factors that will affect the timing of the process.

Utilizing our proprietary software, agencies scan the images either on-scene or at their station with our Image Capture Station hardware. Each scan takes appropriately 30 seconds and is uploaded to our national servers. Actionable intelligence is available within minutes of scanning in our Crime Scene Analysis Reports and our Virtual Correlation Center (VCC) is staffed 24/7/365 by Senior Firearm and Toolmark Examiners to provide additional analysis.
